A groups of students from Year 10-13 were invited to meet ambassadors from the University of Oxford last week. Year 10 and 11 students listened to a session about what it is like to go to university. Mrs Barnes (Progress Manager for Year 10) commented on how inspirational this was for our younger students, which was echoed by Jess and Phoebe in Year 11, who said it was exciting to hear about the university experience. Students in Year 12 had the chance to ask current undergraduate about the university, before taking part in some subject specific critical thinking activities. All students commented on how enjoyable it was to talk to “actual university students”, with the only complaint being the session was not long enough! Year 13 Sixth Form students were able to gain advice from St Edmund Hall students about the rigour of the application process and ask for advice on finalising their personal statements. Camilla, who is applying to Oxford to study Economics, said speaking to the ambassadors was an excellent opportunity. Luke and the rest of the team from the University spoke very highly of the Wilsthorpe students, saying they were a pleasure to work with.
