A group of Year 8 students recently returned from an unforgettable week at Outward Bound in the Lake District, where they demonstrated exceptional resilience, teamwork and determination.

The adventure began with the traditional Outward Bound jog and dip, setting the tone for a week filled with challenge, adventure and personal growth. Students then embarked on an expedition to the summits of Place Fell and High Dodd, carrying their own equipment, navigating challenging conditions and camping overnight. A particular highlight was hiking through low cloud before emerging on the summit of Place Fell, giving many students the experience of standing on top of an official mountain for the very first time.

The week was packed with exciting activities, including a powerboat trip on Ullswater and cliff jumping, where students were encouraged to challenge themselves at a level that suited them. Nearly every student took the plunge, demonstrating real courage and confidence as they stepped outside their comfort zones.

Another highlight was an exhilarating day of gorge scrambling up Freezedale Beck. Climbing waterfalls past fast-flowing water and working together to overcome obstacles tested both physical and mental resilience. Students also took part in night-time orienteering, showcasing their enthusiasm, determination and problem-solving skills.

The trip perfectly embodied our Year Team mantra of “Together We Thrive.” From supporting one another on mountain summits and around the campfire, to encouraging each other through cold-water challenges and demanding outdoor activities, every student played their part in the group’s success.

The students represented the school exceptionally well throughout the week and should be incredibly proud of all they achieved. Their positive attitude, willingness to embrace new experiences and commitment to supporting one another made the trip a tremendous success and one that will be remembered for years to come.
