As if A Level results day is not stressful enough, within an hour of finding out he had secured his place at Derby University, to do primary school teaching, James B was on the bowling greens at Leamington for the Bowls England national finals.
Partnered by Fletcher U (Year 10) in the Under-24 boys pairs, they had won their first game the day before and returned for the early start on the 13th August. They won a further two games in the extreme heat to reach the semi-finals and a tense and closely fought game was lost to two older and more experienced bowlers from Suffolk.
This was Fletcher’s first time qualifying to the nationals and James had reaches the semi-finals last year in the Under-17 singles. James has since taken part in the Under-24 singles competition and will represent Derbyshire in the English Bowling Federation Finals in Skegness next week.
