Last weekend, 60 Wilsthorpe students headed into the Peak District as part of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions. Twenty-one Year 10 students completed a demanding three-day route, camping for two nights, while 39 Year 9 students undertook a two-day hike with one night of camping.

Despite the warm conditions, students demonstrated impressive resilience, independence and determination throughout. Mr Warner, Wilsthorpe’s DofE Lead, reflected: “It was inspiring to see the students rise to the challenge. There were moments when groups lost their way, but they showed real maturity in retracing their steps and getting themselves back on course. The heat and the weight of their packs tested them, but their teamwork and perseverance ensured that every student reached the finish at Over Haddon.”

For Bronze participants, the expedition marks a major milestone, with only their skills, volunteering and physical sections left to complete. For Silver students, this was a valuable practice expedition, with their qualifying journey in the Dark Peak set for June.
