Wilsthorpe students took the 2-hour drive to Hull to perform in the national Music for Youth Festival

On Friday 14th March 7 Wilsthorpe students took the 2-hour drive to Hull to perform in the national Music for Youth Festival, along with many other schools from around the country, including the TTCT schools: Friesland, Heritage and Swanwick. The students (6 singers and one bass player) performed 3 pop songs: Don’t ever stop by The Boxer Rebellion, Pure shores by the All Saints and Billie Jean by Micheal Jackson. They received some excellent feedback from the professional judges, stating in particular they were very impressed with the performance of Billie Jean. We will find out in the coming weeks if they have been invited to the next round of performances held in Birmingham in July. Good luck!

On Saturday 15th March, 15 Year 10 Music students spent their evening at Derby Cathedral watching a live orchestra perform film music pieces from famous movies such as Pirate of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and James Bond. Year 10 are currently learning about film music in the Area of Study 4 for their Year 11 OCR GCSE Music exam and one student said, “the singer gave me actual chills”. Watch out for our Winter Warmer in December 2025 for more on film music in the movies!
