Wilsthorpe School continues to build on its reputation as the highest-performing school in Erewash and one of the top schools in Derbyshire. This year’s GCSE results are the best in the school’s history, with nearly 20% of all grades awarded at 7, 8 or 9. Almost 80% of students achieved a Grade 4 or higher in both English and Maths — a significant increase from pre-COVID levels.

Among the many success stories are Phoebe Platelas, who achieved straight Grade 9s and plans to study a range of STEM subjects at Sixth Form, and Eleanor Rigby, who earned all 8s and 9s and has enrolled to study Biology, History and English Language. Eleanor credited her teachers and family, especially her grandfather, for their support.

The school has seen major investment in recent years, including a £14 million new building and an £8 million Sports and Sixth Form Centre opened in 2024. Sixth Form enrolment is now open, with late applications welcome.

Headteacher Derek Hobbs praised students’ resilience and staff dedication, while Wesley Davies, CEO of The Two Counties Trust, celebrated the collective achievements across the Trust’s schools.
